This is the Showcase for the National Survey Health of Development (NSHD) 1946 birth cohort study. The aim is to present the variables for researchers in a comprehensive and concise way and to provide technical information to those considering applying to use the NSHD resource.

The Showcase will only function as a search and browse tool. Researchers will need to make a list of the variables they are interested in and use the NSHD data discovery and basket building platform, Condor, to make basket(s) of variables to be linked to their data request. Please visit the How-to guides page for step-by-step instructions on how to use both the Showcase and Condor platforms independently and together.

There is a registration form that needs to be completed to gain access to Condor. There are also additional prerequisites that need to be completed before the data is shared.

Condor gives you access to the full set of variables available whilst the Showcase will only display non-sensitive variables whose metadata has been updated as part of our metadata cleaning project. This is due to finish at the end of 2026. As of January 2026, 75% (28,000) of the NSHD variables are displayed on the Showcase.
