Bioelectrical impedance analysis determines the resistance to the flow of an electric current through the human body, from which the total body water is initially estimated, and subsequently, total fat mass is calculated on the basis of the constant hydration of fat-free (lean) mass. Bio-impedance was analysed while the participants wore light clothing, using a TANITA SC-240MA analyser scale calibrated weekly.Body-mass composition was estimated using a two-compartmented model that divided body weight into total fat mass and lean mass, including estimates of skeletal muscle, bone mass and total body-water. Visceral fat index, basal metabolic rate and biological age were also estimated by the bio-impedance analysis.
